The game does not start, or the window is empty
- WebView2 missing. On some Windows 10 machines, Prism shows a message window with the download address of the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime and closes. Install it, then start Prism again. The address is
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=2124703. - "Prism is already running". Only one copy of each channel can run. Look for the window of the running one.
- The game folder. Do not unzip it in "Program Files": the game must be able to write there.
Windows or an antivirus warns about prism.exe
Prism is not signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may ask you to confirm the first time: click More info, then Run anyway. Some security tools may warn for the same reason. On the Download page, compare the SHA-256 shown with the one of your file (Get-FileHash .\Prism.zip -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell); if they differ, download it again.
No sound
- Settings → Audio: check the volume and the output device.
- A map whose audio file cannot be found is listed as incompatible in the import report.
- Menu music has its own setting in Settings → Audio.
Low FPS
- Settings → Video: set a max FPS, try VSync on or off, and show the FPS counter to see the effect.
- Settings → Library → background calculation: lower the number of threads. The calculation already runs at reduced priority and pauses while you play.
A mod or a skin does not work
The Mods page shows why a mod failed to load; disable or uninstall it there. For a skin, choose another one on the Skins page. See Mods and Skins.
An update did not work
Updates keep a backup in update-backup next to prism.exe, and a version that fails to start twice is removed automatically. If prism.exe itself cannot even load, copy update-backup\<number>\files\prism.exe back over it.
Where are the logs
If Prism crashes, it writes prism-crash.log in your data folder (message, place, version and channel; nothing is sent anywhere) and a window shows its path. Settings → About shows the crash log and has buttons to open the data folder.
- Stable:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Prism\PrismNG\data - PBE:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Prism\PrismNG-PBE\data
To start from zero (settings included), delete the data folder.
Report a bug
Send us: the channel and version (Settings → About, or RELEASE.txt in the zip), your Windows version, prism-crash.log if the game crashed, and what you did, what you expected and what happened. See the Contact page.
